Significant Others of Saba Constitution 
 

Mission Statement 

The purpose of the Significant Others of Saba is to provide support to the Significant Others of students studying medicine at Saba University School of Medicine. On island support as well as the sharing of information for those off island is provided. 

Vision 

The Significant Others Organization acts as a liaison between the non medical partners and children to make their experience with SUSOM a positive one as they provide support for the student.  The members of SUSOM are encouraged to provide assistance to the community through volunteering in the community of Saba. 

Elections Process and Positions Available   

Duration of Term:   Positions are held for at least one semester but preferably more than one 

Method of Voting:  By open ballot at the final general meeting of the semester

Appointments to ad hoc committees will be done as necessary by the Executive Committee 

Positions and Duties of the Executive Officers:  

President

• Plan, Coordinate and Lead Club Meetings and Executive Meetings
• Provide ongoing updates to club members via general club meetings, email communications and the SUSOM website.
• Chair the general meeting of the membership on the 4^th Saturday of each month (unless this falls during the semester break)
• Coordinate with the Executive Committee the Welcome and Farewell activities for the on island members
• Provide a communication update for the SUSOM Newsletter outlining the activities of the group

Secretary

• Record accurately the minutes of the general meetings
• Distribute minutes to the members both on and off island in a timely manner
• Keep the members up to date via email and other means as to the various activities
• Maintain an accurate listing of the members along with contact information
• Attend all meetings and record all minutes
• Keep all records in both paper and electronic files

Treasurer

• Maintain accurate records of funds of the organization
• Provide a report on the funds at each general meeting

• Fund Raising
• Social Events for members
• Community Service

Duties of the Members

• Greet the new incoming families as they arrive on island
• Provide the new incoming families with provisions to get them through the first few meals on Saba
• Provide the new incoming families with the SOS survival guide listing such things as restaurants, utilities, groceries etc.
• Ensure that the family is matched with a mentor family as closely as possible.
• Help to make the transition for the family as they enter and leave island life.
• Ensure that families are included and do not feel alienated while living on Saba
• Provide any assistance that is necessary as families change
• Provide assistance to other clubs at SUSOM such as looking after their activities during class time
