Here are some questions that many people have been asking us!
No, its for anyone that accompanies the student to the island. For instance, wifes, husbands, fiances, girlfriends/boyfriends, nannies, moms & dads, and families. Also included are the families of the faculty!
Using this website, facebook, email, and the our local phones (cell and landline) are our main means of communication on the island. However, when we call our families back home we often use Skype, Vonage, and Magic Jack.
Yes, we all love getting mail! Their is a local post office that you can use or their is a mailing service here called ICS. Here is a link for more information! www.icssaba.com
Yes, many people bring their pets! All that is required is a health certificate from the state 10 days prior to traveling, and proof of rabies shot! It is also a good idea to check with the airlines and your new landlord! A Veternarian visits the island once a month!
It is harder to bring pets as many/most landlords will not take pets any more.
Rachel says- I would have brought more kids clothing and craft supplies! I would have left most of my warm weather cloths behind!
Heather says- I would not have brought so many diapers since I can order them through SOS! I would have left the extra food I packed, it was available in the grocery stores on Saba!
You can fly or you can take the boat! Here are the links: www.sabactransport.com is for the boat, and www.fly-winair.com for the plane!
First of all bring a hobby. If you don't have one start one. Supplies are limited or non existent so bring what you need.
SOS has sewing machines and some of us get together once a week to sew. Many of us have learned to quilt and have made bed sized quilts. There are people who can help you with this.
Yes and No. Some find work in the shops for about $5 per hour and not full time. Some find work teaching at the local school. Most SOS members do not work.
